RACING EXTINCTION

RACING EXTINCTION  | 2015

In 2012, I met Louie Psyhoyis during a freedive training course. The next year, Louie proposed an idea to shoot the opening sequence of his new film, Racing Extinction. At that time, footage of humans and blue whales at scale had not been done. I collaborated with Louie as the underwater director of photography for their opening blue whale sequence. It was one of the most challenging underwater productions either of us had ever attempted and nearly went home empty-handed, but fortunately nature graced us on the final day of the shoot. The film premiered at Sundance in early 2015.

We also created a short documentary of the production as a prelude that was published in conjunction with the worldwide release Racing Extinction on Discovery Channel (which received 36 million viewers in 24 hours).
