Four orders. Still affordable. Incredible.
Last week, I was fortunate enough to be invited to dinner at Morton’s in West Palm Beach to try some new additions to their menu. A rarity, this changing of the Morton’s menu, and they’d added a few carefully selected and extremely tasty items. In the entrée category, I was loving the terrific prime bone-in filet mignon which, although wet aged (as opposed to dry aged – I asked) was as tender as, well, something really, really tender.
But as great as that piece of meat was (and I recommend it without hesitation), the star of the night for me was the plate of three crabcake BLTs on tiny slider buns with a mustard-mayonaise sauce. Each crab cake was made with a ton of lump crab meat and no filler, the lettuce and tomato were fresh and delicious, and the bacon did what bacon usually does: made me say “mmmm…bacon.”
Bottom line here: they were fantastic. So good, in fact, that I completely forgot to take a picture of them and I had to ask a good Samaritan to email me one the next day.
So good that I’ve been thinking about them almost obsessively since I left Morton’s, and have told everyone that will listen all about them.
So good that if they’d kept putting them in front of me I would have kept eating them until I fell over, or the chair beneath me exploded into splinters and dropped me onto the floor where I’d lie beached, straining to reach the tabletop to scoop even more off the plate and into my mouth like a crazed, spastic gourmand with no shame.
But the story of these things actually gets better: they’re part of what Morton’s is calling the Bar Bites menu, which means you can cop them right out at the bar if you’re in a hurry. No need to wait for a table and go through all kinds of rigmarole (menu, bread – which is delicious by the way, waiter, tap table nervously while waiting); just order a plate of three and a beer at the bar, and you’ll be happy in no time. Really, really happy.
Because not only do they taste great, not only are they easily accessible if you’re in a hurry, but they’re cheap. Really cheap. The price for three of these joyous journeys to the land of Sponge Bob is only six bucks. Yes, I said six bucks. Not impressed? What if I write it like this: $6.00.
And let me be clear: that’s $6.00 for three, not $6.00 each, which makes this possibly the best deal in the Western hemisphere.
So head’s up, people. If you’re in West Palm (I believe other South Florida locations are offering the same deal – call and check) and have a hankering for some delicious seafood, pop into Morton’s and let them give you crabs. Reasonably priced, fantastically delicious, and no need to buy a bottle of Quell on your way home while you try to figure out how to explain this to your girlfriend.

Wow, these do sound amazing! Luckily, I at least have a mortadella-cheddar sandwich in hand while reading this so I’m not drooling as much as I normally do. Just wish those crab cake BLTs could be mail-ordered so I wouldn’t have to go to FL…
